IMPLICATIONS OF BAKAM–SUAI–TANJUNG KIDURONG COASTAL ROADS NETWORK DEVELOPMENT TOWARDS IBAN LONGHOUSES COMMUNITY’S SOCIO-ECONOMIC AT SUAI HILIR AREA

Sarawak has achieved rapid development, but the development only focused in the urban areas. Eventhough, the majority of the populations who live in rural areas constantly neglected and left behind from accessibility towards amenities infrastructure such as clinic, school and the place for get the daily needs. However, they continuely live in poverty. Research has been conducted at four Iban longhouses in Suai area with questionnaire as a main tools to get the data from 73 respondents. Main objective of the research is to identify the implications of Bakam–Suai–Tanjung Kidurong Coastal Roads Network development towards Iban longhouses community’Ss socio-economic at Suai Hilir area. The specific objectives are (i) to identify characteristics of community’s demography, (ii) community’s sosio-economic activities, (iii) impact of the development of the roads towards community’s social and economic, (iv) to study the community perceptions, and (v) to determine the community’s iniciatives for improve their own life. Due to the development of this road, findings show that there are major changes in community’s economic activities, social, and accessibility towards amenities infrastructure.

IMPLIKASI PEMBANGUNAN JARINGAN JALAN RAYA PERSISIRAN PANTAI BAKAM–SUAI–TANJUNG KIDURONG TERHADAP SOSIO-EKONOMI PENDUDUK RUMAH PANJANG IBAN DI KAWASAN SUAI HILIR

Negeri Sarawak telah mencapai pembangunan yang pesat, akan tetapi pembangunan tersebut hanya tertumpu di kawasan bandar sahaja. Walaubagaimanapun, kebanyakkan penduduknya yang tinggal di kawasan luar bandar terus terpinggir serta ketinggalan dari segi dayacapai terhadap kemudahan prasarana asas seperti klinik, sekolah dan tempat untuk mendapatkan keperluan harian. Malahan penduduk tersebut terus dibelenggu kemiskinan. Kajian ini dijalankan di empat buah rumah panjang Iban di kawasan Suai dengan menggunakan borang soal selidik sebagai alat kajian utama untuk mendapatkan data daripada 73 responden. Objektif utama kajian ini adalah untuk mengenalpasti implikasi pembangunan jaringan Jalan Raya Persisiran Pantai Bakam–Suai–Tanjung Kidurong terhadap sosio-ekonomi penduduk yang terlibat. Objektif khususnya pula adalah (i) untuk mengenalpasti ciri-ciri demografi penduduk, (ii) kegiatan sosio-ekonomi penduduk, (iii) impak kewujudan jalan raya tersebut terhadap sosial dan ekonomi penduduk, (iv) meninjau persepsi penduduk dan (v) melihat inisiatif penduduk untuk memajukan diri. Ekoran daripada pembangunan jalan raya tersebut, dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa terdapat perubahan ketara terhadap kegiatan ekonomi, sosial, serta dayacapai penduduk terhadap kemudahan prasarana asas.
